Old and vulnerable

There is limited awareness of the needs, concerns, rights and potential contributions of older people who become displaced. Elderly people mostly have specific needs that have to be adressed in planning and programming. Lack of mobility, weakened vision, often chronic illnesses, feeling of isolation, just to name but a few can all make their access to basic assistance and services difficult.

Through its Age, Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming (AGDM) strategy, UNHCR in Central Europe aims to ensure that older people can express their individual needs and concerns and can actively participate in planning and implementing the protection policies and activities that are addressing them.
