UNHCR regularly monitors and comments on the asylum law and policy of the European Union with the aim of ensuring that there is an adequate legal protection framework in the individual Member States and at EU level. UNHCR also makes concrete recommendations and in flagrant cases goes beyond advising and may take Member States to the relevant court, such as the European Court of Human Rights.
