UNHCR is lucky to be able to count on a wide group of friends and supporters who help its work in various ways. Some, having reached the top in their chosen professions, use their influence and popularity to help spread awareness about UNHCR's work, lobby governments and raise funds for the world's millions of displaced and the agency’s operations. Some give free concerts, while many go to the field to assist personally and let refugees and internally displaced people know that people care.

UNHCR's high-profile supporters share a singular determination to help the world's displaced and to help raise the world’s awareness about the suffering and needs of the vulnerable. They include royalty, musicians, actors of stage and screen, authors, sports stars, academics, photographers, aid workers and students. Some are former refugees, while some come from privileged backgrounds yet feeling a calling to help others in need. They range from Special Envoy Angelina Jolie through International Goodwill Ambassadors Giorgio Armani and Adel Imam to National Goodwill Envoy Khaled Hosseini and valuable supporters like basketball star Luol Deng, photographer Zalmaï and lighting artist Gerry Hofstetter.

They complement the work of UNHCR's most valuable asset, the national and international staff on duty around the world.
